Game Story

EVANSTON, Illinois (Ticker) -- Even with its recent struggles, 24th-ranked Purdue still played well enough to defeat Northwestern again. Erin Lawless and Katie Gearlds each scored 17 points as the Boilermakers held on for a 68-65 victory over the Wildcats in a Big Ten Conference game. Purdue (12-8, 5-4 Big Ten), which had lost four of its last five games, shot 50 percent (15-of-30) in the second half en route to a 14th consecutive victory over Northwestern. Wildcats guard Melissa Culver had a chance to tie the game at the buzzer, but her 3-pointer only found the front of the rim. Gearlds was 6-of-13 from the floor with six assists and Lawless hit 8-of-11 for the Boilermakers, who snapped a four-game road losing streak. Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton added 13 points and three blocked shots and Emily Heikes chipped in nine and nine rebounds as Purdue dominated inside, outscoring Northwestern in the paint, 40-30. Senior Suzanne Morrison, who was playing in her first game since suffering a knee injury on December 14, scored 18 points off the bench for the Wildcats. Sarah Kwasinski added 13 points and five blocks and Sara Stutz chipped in 10 points for Northwestern, which has lost four of its last five games.
